On Monday 14th March, Broadoak hosted a Maths event for schools in the area concentrating on teaching higher level skills to the top Maths pupils in our Year 9.
16 of our pupils had the opportunity to attend. The first part of the day (following amusing video footage of Takeshi’s Castle game-show participants crashing headfirst into either doors or walls) consisted of working out the probabilities of game success and the higher level thinking through use of branching diagrams.
Later on, £100 Graphical Calculators were issued to the
whole group for ‘A level’ quality graphing of statistical
functions to complement the developed order learning
and thinking skills expected of the pupils.
The day rounded off with ‘card tricks’ and more calculation
of probabilities of how to ‘beat the system’.
All pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day and Broadoak is looking forward to more next year.
