Visit to Bristol University with The Brilliant Club
12 Broadoak students from years eight and nine have been offered the opportunity to participate in The Brilliant Club’s The Scholars Programme, a scheme designed to raise aspirations of attending Higher Education establishments by giving students a taste of university-style learning.
The students began the programme with a launch trip to Bristol University on Tuesday 1st November, where they were able to meet their PHD tutor Bethany Lamont and tour the esteemed buildings with current university students. The day also included sessions on independent study skills and an Information, Advice and Guidance session on university courses. One student commented that the tour was “great fun”. Students also enjoyed their first seminar on villains in Disney texts.
As part of the programme, students will undertake 5 seminars on applying critical theory to texts which cumulates in a 1500 word assignment to show their learning. In 2017, students will be able to “graduate” at another highly selective university.
