26 Year Five students from local Primary Schools participated in a Shakespeare day at Broadoak College on Tuesday 20th June. Throughout the day, students explored The Tempest, a play about a shipwrecked magician and his daughter. Students enjoyed recreating the storm and the island, using props and musical instruments to really bring the play to life. Year 5 students were joined by a selection of Year Nine Broadoak students who shared their knowledge of the play and of Shakespeare with their younger counterparts.
The main highlight of the day was a group performance of the play, created by the students themselves. Students were able to re-create the play based on their learning over the day, so the audience of teachers and parents were able to enjoy a range of different interpretations. Comedy and mime featured heavily in this performance - very Shakespearean!
The students were an absolute pleasure to teach and feedback from the day from students and parents was very positive.
