Broadoak students step up to the reformed GCSEs.
Staff, students and governors at Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College are delighted with their 2018 GCSE results. In a year which has seen another major overhaul in GCSEs, the students, well supported by their families and carers, have worked hard to achieve great results that will set them up for their next steps in life.
The college is very pleased that the pass rate in both Maths and English has risen at 64% and 72% respectively with the basics measure rising to 58%. The college is equally delighted with the stunning results in biology, chemistry and physics as well as in French and textiles.
With the advent of the new 9-1 system, a number of students have achieved the highest award of a grade 9 with several achieving the majority of their GCSEs at this level – a phenomenal achievement which is not to be underestimated. Particular mention goes to Sam with a full suite of GCSEs at grades 8 and 9, Tim with five GCSEs at grade 9 and three grade 8s as well as Robin with four grade 9s! Maddie was thrilled with her three grade 9s especially in performing arts – she is a star of the future! Charlotte and Sean celebrated with an overwhelming number of grade 8s and 9s as well.
Ms McGillycuddy, Headteacher, added, "Today is such a wonderful day for the students of Broadoak College and their families. There is much for us all to be proud of. All the hard work in class and revision at home has paid off and we have a lot to celebrate. There are so many joyous individual success stories and as a school we are seeing significant indicators of improvement. This is a great opportunity to thank all the parents, carers and supporters of the school but it is also a good time to acknowledge the staff and governors too – we are all in this together to make sure the young people of Weston get the best. I am delighted for all our students and I do mean all – we are a truly comprehensive school and are proud of every single student. The smiles, hugs, congratulations and advice are all testament to the strong, inclusive and proud community Broadoak is. Good luck to our fantastic alumni – their colleges are very lucky indeed!’
