On Friday 7th April, 42 eager skiers and 6 staff set out on a very long and excitable coach journey, to the snowy and mountainous resort of Saalbach. On arrival we were told that we would be travelling 45 minutes each day to Kaprun. • Krakow Trip – February 2017

    Published 13/03/17

At the end of February, 40 students from years 9 and 10 visited Krakow, in Poland, with the Humanities department. We chose to visit Krakow, because of the opportunity it offered to allow students to explore aspects of the Holocaust, and the treatment of Jewish people throughout history. Both year groups had previously taken part in our activities for Holocaust Memorial Day, and the trip to Poland offered a fantastic chance to connect with the stories and events of the time even further.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been my very great privilege to serve as Headteacher of Broadoak College for 8 very eventful years and the time has flown by.

I have, however, decided that the time has come to relinquish my post. I started teaching two weeks after my 22nd birthday and feel it is time to try something new.

It has been a great pleasure to have worked in and served our school community. The school has become very dear to me and I shall miss many things, not least the wonderful students.

I will leave with a great many memories of staff, students, parents and Governors - past and present.

Broadoak is, I believe, a very good school and there are a great many people who are associated with the school who will steer the school community through the next phase of its journey, and I have the utmost confidence that it will continue to thrive.

I would like to thank you for the support you have given to me and the school during my time here.

I will not be leaving until 31 August 2017. However, we are a long way off the summer and we still have much work to do between now and August!

In the meantime it will be ‘business as usual’ whilst we seek to appoint a new Headteacher in time to take up post on 1 September 2017.

Have a lovely half term break.

    Ms Pritchard, Headteacher

Six students were selected to take part in an exciting project organised at Weston College to provide an introduction to the Catering and Hospitality industry. During the course the students developed skills in food preparation, cooking and serving.

The course ran for four sessions in Weston College’s professional kitchen in which the students prepared a three course meal, each session focussing on a different course. Parents and teachers were invited to the restaurant for the final session to enjoy the delicious meal.

The chef lecturer from Weston College who was in charge of the event said,  “It was an absolute pleasure to work with all the students from Broadoak as they listened carefully to instructions, were proactive and worked well together.”

Congratulations Alex, Ana, Emily, Casey, Hester and Oswald on completing this course and showing a great passion and commitment throughout the project.

On Thursday 26th January a group of More Able and Talented students graduated from The Scholars Programme, a scheme designed to challenge students academically.  Twelve students from Years 8 and 9 participated in the programme, attending in-house seminars led by a PHD tutor from St Martins University in London.  The seminars covered a range of topics, challenging students to apply philosophical and physiological theories to well-known texts such as Harry potter.  It also helped developed their independent study skills by replicating university style teaching.  Students completed a 1200 word essay where all students received either a 2:1 or a 1:1 for their written work.
